Vasl Artists’ Association is a not for profit, artist-led initiative, operating in Pakistan since 2001. Primarily run by women, Vasl is one of the few Pakistani platforms for artists that facilitates art and cultural education and programs for the public and community. It is affiliated with the Triangle Network London, which is a global network of art organizations.
Vasl’s mission: Vasl Artist’s Association’s mission is to encourage critical thinking in creative practices that generate courageous conversations and inspire empathy and inclusion.
Vasl endeavors to leverage the dynamic power of arts and culture to engage and build communities, address social issues and advance individual understanding.
Vasl seeks to create opportunities for a diverse range of local and international artists and other creatives. It also seeks to create accessibility for all in the arts and culture and provide alternate resources and a platform for arts and cultural engagement in Pakistan.
Vasl’s initiatives include national and international residencies, exhibitions and opportunities for emerging and mid-career artists, publications, research grants, talks, workshops, presentations, educational outreach and training programs at primary and higher education level, on-site special projects, community-based programs and collaborations.
Since Vasl’s inception
• 700 artists and creatives have gone through various Vasl programs
• 50 organizations have partnered with Vasl
• 48 residencies have taken place in different creative disciplines
• 36 workshops have been conducted in different locations and with varied audiences
• An annual grant, sponsored by Khurram Kasim Art Foundation for a recent graduate in art and related fields, is granted to a qualified candidate.
