Mission

Basera’s mission is to provide orphan, homeless and destitute children with safe and secure shelter, education, healthcare, guidance and life skills to grow into productive members of society.

Basera Today

Basera was started in 2001. We are building a custom designed facility to be the new permanent Basera home and expect to move Basera children into their new home within the first half of 2025.

Basera currently houses 66 boys and girls (Jan 2025). Many are from areas affected by floods, earthquakes and terrorism. By providing these children a safe haven, they are protected from dangerous elements such as street criminals, drug addicts, human traffickers and terrorists.

Each Basera child goes to school, gets civic and religious education, regular medical checkups and nutritious meals. To instil discipline, children follow a daily routine which includes school, tutoring, prayers, homework, meals and leisure time. Monthly recreational outings provide children an opportunity to observe and interact with nature and modern developments.

Care is taken to provide a congenial family environment so that children are happy, socially well-adjusted and well behaved. Relatives of Basera children are encouraged to meet them frequently. Children are also encouraged to visit their relatives on special occasions and holidays.

Program Spending

Zakat, sadqa and donations to Basera Trust are spent on providing the necessities of life, wellbeing and growth to all deserving children under its roof. Expenses may include accommodations, clothing, food, medicines, school fees, books, transportation, furniture, tutoring, extra-curricular activities, security, utilities, staff salaries and other overhead costs.

Future Growth – New Permanent Home

Basera has acquired land and started work on constructing a new building that will expand its capacity to care for upto 200 children in 2025. Our goal is that by the year 2030, Basera will be able to take active care of 400 children. As these children grow up, Basera intends to send them to universities, colleges and vocational schools, Insha’Allah, so that they can eventually contribute towards the sustainability of Basera.

The new Basera home design is a 4 story building totalling approximately 45,000 square feet and comprising an auditorium (multi-purpose hall), mosque, offices, kitchen, dining hall, activity rooms and dormitories. Of these 4 stories, Phase 1 of the project includes building the complete structure for approximately 25,000 square feet spread over 2 floors and the basement level. Within this, the initial goal is to finish the basement levels and 1st and 2nd floors. In Phase 2, the 3rd and 4th floors will be built as Basera grows and needs to expand.

Phase 1 (Q2 2025 Move In)

Lower Ground Level: Auditorium/Multi-purpose Hall
Upper Ground Level: Mosque, Dining Hall, Kitchen, Junior Boys Washrooms, Junior Boys Activity/Study Hall, 5 Junior Boys Dormitories
First Floor: Office space, 4 Classrooms, Girls Washrooms, Girls Activity/Study Hall, 5 Girls Dormitories
Basement Level: Senior Boys Activity/Study Hall, 3 Senior Boys Dormitories
This is expected to create “move in ready” finished space for upto 200 children.
