What is ACELP?
ACELP is a voluntary, welfare organization of parents, professionals and citizens for the care of children with developmental delays and special needs.
Established in 1974 in Karachi, it provides diagnostics, special education, therapies and vocational training.

To create a learning environment that accepts and supports all challenges of diversity. Guiding the individual child in all aspects of physical, intellectual, emotional and social development in order to reach a level of maximum mastery over his environment an exciting and enjoyable journey of self-discovery.
OUR VISION
To expand training facilities for the children as well as care givers teachers and therapists, working with special needs children.
We have expanded our services by including self care training for children with severe intellectual delays.
Children with intellectual delays having, visual and hearing issues are also inducted in our programme.
SERVICES AND FACIITIES AT ACELP
PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUAITONS:
Detailed psychological evaluations are carried out for all new admissions. Consultation is provided by our psychologists for academic, behavioral, and emotional problems. These services are extended for children attending normal schools, as well to children with developmental delays and learning deficits. Assistance in specific problems is given by the specialists.
OUR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMES:
Children are placed in classes after evaluation. By the Psychologist, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist and Speech therapist and the teachers for older children, for younger children academic training starts with Montessori Unit. Where basic training provides information to the teachers of their needs, further progress they are given training accordingly in various for units.
ACADEMIC UNIT:
Focusing on developing core concepts social communication, interaction and adjustment. Starts with Montessori II for further formal education.
FUNCTIONAL UNIT:
Those children who are not able to progress in academics forms this group where they are taught functional literacy skills and pre vocational skills leading to vocational training.
SELF HELP UNIT:
Children severe learning delays are taught basic skills of daily living and self-independence such as feeding, dressing, grooming and home skills; leading to independence in daily functions.
AUTISM UNIT:
Provides structured TEACCH with Montessori and ABA for early learners and advanced learners, need related therapies are provided , PECS, Sensory training,, ABA for communication and socialization skills.
VOCATIONAL UNIT:
Vocational Programs prepare students to lead towards independence and self-sufficiency, these include: Khaddi weaving, Block Printing, Sewing and crochet, Computer skills, for advanced academic group. Lamination and spiral binding, Paper Making. Children are also trained to be Teaching Helpers, Physical Therapy Helpers and Sports Helpers and office assistant, and they assist in various departments and are paid.
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY DEPARTMENT:
Offers Assessment and therapy to school admitted children as well as OPDs including manual dexterity/ sensory integration therapy/ ADL training and provides parental guidance and home program, for parents who cannot come frequently.
Oral placement therapy Talk Tool and Move to learn programs are also running successfully.
We also make custom made equipment and therapeutic material as per need of the child.
OT department also supervises the training program of final year students of OT department of Dow University (IPMR) and Jinnah hospital (JPMC).
PHYSICAL THERAPY AND SPORTS SERIVCES:
Motor problems are evaluated and programs developed using evidence based therapeutic techniques and methods. Physiotherapeutic Yoga is a regular feature of the program.
The services are offered to school children as well as OPDs. Families from distant cities and areas also benefit from Home Programs.
SPORTS TRAINING:
This is carried out under the qualified Physical Educator, Sports Trainer and Physical Therapist.
Indoor Gymnasium provides the facility of Special training skills for specific sports at all levels. Children are facilitated to participate in special Olympic Games held at National and International levels. Children have also earned medals leading to greater sense of achievement.
SPEECH THERAPY:
Speech therapy assessments are done collaboratively with Ziauddin Speech and Language College- after assessment program is provided to teachers and parents.
MAKATON and PECH programs are incorporated in therapy sessions wherever required.
SCHOOL READINESS PROGRAM:
Target school readiness skills like physical, cognitive, social emotional competence and positive attitude towards learning. This helps children to adjust into school.
AFTERNOON PROGRAMMS:
For children with severe disabilities, we offer an afternoon program which provides training in self – help skills and guide parents to manage children at home. Program includes therapies (OT-PT) as well
