Brief Overview

Umeed Parr Foundation is a nonprofit organization that supports children undergoing cancer treatment and their families by addressing the non-medical challenges associated with long-term care. Many families travel from outside major cities and face difficulties securing safe, affordable accommodation during treatment. Through Umeed Parr, the organization provides free lodging for children and their caregivers, along with meals and a stable living environment close to treatment facilities.
In addition to housing, Umeed Parr offers psychosocial support, educational continuity for children, and vocational training for mothers to help them remain engaged and build skills during their stay. The organization also works to reduce the financial and emotional strain on families by covering essential daily needs and creating a structured, supportive community.
The aim is to ensure that no child’s treatment is disrupted due to housing insecurity or financial hardship and that families are supported holistically throughout the treatment journey.

Core Programs and Services

Umeed Parr Foundation’s core programs are centered around Umeed Gharr, a residential support facility for children undergoing cancer treatment and their families.
Accommodation and Basic Needs:

Umeed Gharr provides free safe, and hygienic accommodation for pediatric cancer patients and their primary caregivers (primarily mothers) located within accessible distance of treatment centers. Separate lodging arrangements are also facilitated for fathers. Nutritious meals and daily essentials are provided to reduce the financial burden on families.

Hospital-Based Support and Rewards Program:

The organization runs an ongoing rewards and engagement program at Indus Hospital, Aga Khan University Hospital, and National Institute of Child Health (NICH). Through this initiative, children undergoing treatment receive toys, snacks, and small incentives to encourage and comfort them during hospital visits. The program also includes informal educational activities to keep children engaged and mentally stimulated during long treatment hours.

Psychosocial and Emotional Support:

The organization fosters a supportive community where families can connect with others facing similar challenges, reducing emotional stress through shared experiences and informal counseling.

Education and Vocational Support:

Children at Umeed Gharr are supported in continuing their education, while mothers participate in vocational training and skill-building activities to promote long-term resilience.

Facility Features:

Umeed Gharr includes shared living spaces, kitchen and dining areas, sanitation facilities, and designated learning and activity spaces, ensuring a stable and dignified environment for families.
