Brief Overview

Dar-us-Shifa Foundation (DSF) is a Karachi-based nonprofit working to improve access to essential healthcare and education for underserved communities. Its key programs focus on free dialysis for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and educational support for disadvantaged children and girls.

DSF operates a 20-machine dialysis centre, providing 11,500+ free dialysis sessions annually through donations. Through Shama Home School, it provides free education to working girls across 12+ centres in Orangi Town, while also supporting 300+ students with school fees, materials, and other educational expenses.

Through these programs, DSF works to reduce barriers to lifesaving healthcare and educational opportunities for vulnerable communities.

What Makes Our Approach Distinct

DSF’s model combines long-term Healthcare and Education support for families facing financial hardship. Its dialysis program provides continuing treatment rather than one-time assistance, helping patients maintain access to a lifesaving service. In education, DSF supports girls who may otherwise be unable to attend school and also assists students in continuing education through schools of their choice. Programs are sustained through donations from individuals and institutions in Pakistan and overseas, allowing DSF to provide these services without charging beneficiaries.

Impact Stories

Zulfiqar was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) at just 16 years of age in 2014, when the need for regular dialysis presented a major challenge for him and his family. The ongoing cost of treatment could have significantly affected his ability to continue his education, work, and daily life.

Through Dar-us-Shifa Foundation’s Free Dialysis Program, Zulfiqar has received regular dialysis at no cost for the past 12 years. This continued support has allowed him to maintain his treatment without the financial burden on his family and continue living his life despite his condition. Today, at 28, Zulfiqar remains a regular patient at DSF, demonstrating how consistent access to free dialysis can help a young person continue moving forward with his life despite a lifelong health challenge.
