About:
Dua Foundation (DF) is a registered non-governmental welfare organisation. It was founded by a few professionals from Karachi in 2014. Dua Foundation has been serving people irrespective of their ethnicity, political and religious affiliation, caste or creed in far-flung areas. Their mission is: “Serving Humanity Without Discrimination”. Although it has been founded recently, Dua Foundation has shown a remarkable presence in the society with its social welfare projects for the general public.
Projects:
1)Water for Life
Dua Foundation is working on various projects to supply potable water to katchi abadies (shanty towns) and rural areas in Karachi, Thatta, Sujawal and Tharparkar. By 2015, they had completed more than 65 multifarious water projects benefitting thousands of families. The Dua Foundation also works in an economically sustainable way, they take extreme care observing their expenditure and monitor their projects thoroughly hence their projects cost twenty to thirty percent less than other projects. Dua Foundation supplies water to the rural areas of Karachi by:
- Boring in different locations of Karachi: the supply of water as we know is scarce but inherent management issues make it even harder to distribute the water which is available. All of water is lost due to faulty pipelines. To obtain potable water from underground sources, boring is carried out under Dua Foundation in the rural areas and katchi abadies in Karachi. Additionally, the Dua Foundation has installed hand pumps throughout the rural areas of Karachi so sufficient water can be obtained for everyday use.
- Water projects in Tharparkar: Although Dua Foundation has carried out much work on water projects in all six tehsils of Tharparkar, they have focused mainly on tehsils Chachro and Dahli because they are much quite far and they have been ignored by other NGO’s. Dua Foundation has installed submersible water pumps and constructed water storage tank besides. Due to this hundreds of gallons of water can now be obtained within minutes. In tehsils of Diplo, Mithi, Islamkot, Nangarparkar and Chachro community hand-pumps are being installed after making a 4-inch bore. Dahli is the last tehsil of Tharparkar which is adjacent to Indian border. In most villages here there is no power supply. So wells, usually 80-150 feet deep have to be dug to obtain water.
2)Health Care Program:
The Dua Foundation has recently launched its Home Care Programme. Due to financial constraints, they have been restricted to certain areas in Karachi such as Orangi Town, Banaras Colony, Metroville, North Nazimabad, North Karachi, Nazimabad, Federal B Area and Gulshan-e-Iqbal. The patients who are bed-ridden and suffer bedsores, chronic wounds because of diabetes or have gangrene, are unable to go to hospital for dressing and other treatment are provided home care. They can benefit from Dua Home Care Programme without any cost. Free medicine is also available to everyone and doctors carry out free instant blood sugar and hemoglobin tests.
Dua Bilquis Naz NICU
Dua Foundation has established a nursery in the centre of the city – at Bilquis Naz Medical Centre, where ten incubators and 6 ventilators have been provided at a time.
The presence of a number of pediatricians and trained nursing staff ensures the quality of medical treatment being provided
3) Dua-Agro Farming Project
In some areas of Tharparkar, The Dua Foundation has begun a farming project, using underground water. The first Dua Agro farm over eight acres of land has been set up in Goth Lakhadino Loond of tehsil Diplo. Mustard (Sarson) has been farmed here with great success, using tube well water. Farming experts say that in some parts of Thar, leguminous crops and fodder such as Lucerne and jantar can be easily produced for the cattle all the year round.
4)Relief and Welfare Activities in Areas Hit by Natural Disasters:
Volunteers immediately reach disaster-hit areas and provide instant help and relief to the affected people.
