ABOUT KARWAN-E-HAYAT:

Founded in 1983 by a group of visionary individuals, including Begum Rana Liaquat Ali Khan, Dr. Zafar Qureshi, Begum Abdul Qadir, Dr. Abdul Hussaini, Begum Shaista Ikramullah, and Cardinal Joseph Cordeiro, Karwan-e-Hayat (KeH) has remained a beacon of hope for Karachi’s underserved communities. With a steadfast mission to provide free psychiatric treatment to those who cannot afford it, KeH has evolved into a leading, certified, and trusted mental health institution in Pakistan.

The organization’s credibility is underscored by its tax-deductible status under Section 2(36) of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001, ISO certification, and Shariah compliance, ensuring transparency, quality, and adherence to Islamic principles. Additionally, KeH is endorsed by the Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP) and stands as Pakistan’s only mental health rehabilitation facility to receive the Regular License from the Sindh Healthcare Commission (SHCC).

KeH offers a comprehensive range of mental health services, including Outpatient and Inpatient Treatment, Psychiatric Rehabilitation, Occupational Therapy, Tele-Psychiatry, Community Outreach Programs, and Neurological Medical Services. These services are delivered through two primary facilities in Keamari and Korangi, alongside 22 Community Outreach camps across Karachi.

The Keamari Hospital – Psychiatric Care and Rehabilitation Centre (PCRC) features a 100-bed inpatient facility, Outpatient Department (OPD), and Day Care Services, providing holistic care and rehabilitation to patients. The Korangi Community Psychiatric Centre (KCPC), now housed within the Creek General Hospital, extends community-based psychiatric care through its OPD services.

Through its Community Outreach Program, KeH organizes over 50 medical camps every month in 22 locations across Karachi, offering free consultations, medications, awareness sessions, home visits, and family psycho-social education. These initiatives are pivotal in bridging the mental health care gap in the region, ensuring that the most vulnerable individuals receive the support and treatment they need.

APPEAL FOR SUPPORT:

Mental illness is one of the most neglected and underserved areas of public health in Pakistan, with over 16 million Pakistanis grappling with mental disorders. Sadly, the stigma surrounding mental illness prevents many from seeking the professional help they desperately need, leaving them to suffer in silence.

For countless individuals who cannot afford treatment, Karwan-e-Hayat (KeH) is a ray of hope. Our organization offers comprehensive psychiatric care to those who would otherwise have nowhere to turn. Between July 2024 and January 2025, we facilitated over 153,000 patient visits (a 15% increase from last year during the same period) reflecting the rising demand for mental health services in our community.

However, maintaining and expanding these critical services relies heavily on donations. Unfortunately, natural disasters, such as floods, earthquakes, and the COVID-19 pandemic, have significantly reduced charitable contributions. These challenges have made it increasingly difficult to continue our life-changing work, even as disasters and crises lead to a surge in mental health issues like anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, and anger management challenges.

We urgently need your support to:

  • Provide free and highly subsidized medicines to our patients.
  • Expand our capacity and infrastructure, enabling us to serve more vulnerable individuals.

Your generous donations and Zakat are essential to helping underprivileged, mentally ill patients reclaim their lives and regain their functional independence. By contributing to Karwan-e-Hayat, you are not just giving charity—you are restoring hope, dignity, and well-being to those who need it most.

We humbly request your support to help us continue our mission of healing and hope. Together, we can create a brighter future for Pakistan’s most vulnerable citizens.

THANK YOU!
