Goal: To raise USD 15,000 to start and sustain a new Kahani Sawari project in Shah Faisal Town for one year (September 2025 - August 2026)
What is the Kahani Sawari Project?
GoRead.pk’s Kahani Sawari (Stories on Wheels) is a community-driven initiative that brings the joy of story read aloud sessions to children in underserved communities. These unique culturally and developmentally appropriate stories are published in house by GoRead.pk and focus on developing children’s character (tarbiyah), compassion (ehsaas) and a love for reading (adab) in the children they serve. Children must be read to before we can expect them to read themselves – and that is what the Kahani Sawari initiative focuses on.
Using repurposed ice-cream tricycles, our GoReaders travel through local neighbourhoods, playing the GoRead.pk song and setting up vibrant outdoor learning festivals in public spaces.
Led by a young, literate community member who grew up in these very streets, the project reaches children in narrow alleyways, empty plots, courtyards, and other open areas, offering a story a day for two-weeks at a time. Library systems allow children to borrow the books read aloud to them. By involving local people in the storyreading process, Kahani Sawari empowers the community, fostering a love of reading and ensuring that children are connected to books and learning in a meaningful, enduring and sustainable way that emphasises the importance of literacy acquisition.
Since its inception, this program has evolved into a movement, touching the lives of 40,369 children across Karachi. Now, we want to bring this magic to Shah Faisal Town.
